🔍 What is Paediatric Therapy?

Paediatric Therapy is a broad, multidisciplinary approach to supporting children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, social and communicative development from birth through to 18 years. At Sherin’s Rainbow, our certified paediatric specialists assess each child comprehensively and design personalised intervention plans that address their unique challenges while celebrating every strength.

Sessions are conducted in warm, child-friendly environments using play-based, evidence-based techniques that make treatment engaging and genuinely effective. We believe early intervention is one of the most powerful tools available — the earlier challenges are identified and addressed, the greater and longer lasting the outcomes for the child and the whole family.

Our paediatric team works collaboratively across disciplines — combining occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, physiotherapy and behavioural support where needed — so your child receives truly holistic care under one roof.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should my child start paediatric therapy?
Early intervention is most effective and can begin as early as birth. If you notice any developmental delays, differences or concerns at any age, it is never too early — or too late — to seek an assessment. We work with children from 0 to 18 years across all developmental stages.

How long does each session last?
Therapy sessions typically last 45–60 minutes depending on the child’s age, attention span and therapy goals. Initial assessment sessions may be longer — up to 90 minutes — to allow for comprehensive evaluation. We always ensure sessions are appropriately paced for the individual child.

Will I be involved in my child’s therapy?
Absolutely. Parent and caregiver involvement is a core part of our approach. You will receive detailed home activity guides, attend regular feedback sessions and are always welcome to observe therapy sessions. Research consistently shows that children make faster progress when families actively participate.

What is the difference between paediatric therapy and regular childcare?
Paediatric therapy is delivered by university-trained, clinically certified specialists who use evidence-based assessment tools and treatment frameworks. Unlike childcare or general education, therapy is goal-directed, clinically monitored and specifically designed to address developmental, physical or communicative challenges that affect the child’s functioning and quality of life.

Does my child need a formal diagnosis to access paediatric therapy?
No formal diagnosis is required to begin therapy at Sherin’s Rainbow. If you have concerns about your child’s development — whether or not a diagnosis has been given — we welcome you to book an initial assessment. Our team will evaluate your child’s needs and recommend the most appropriate pathway forward.

How do you measure progress in paediatric therapy?
We use a combination of standardised assessments, goal attainment scaling, developmental checklists and ongoing clinical observation to measure progress. Parents receive a written progress report every 3 months and are part of every goal-setting meeting so they always understand exactly where their child stands and what comes next.
